A festive collection of spirits, a new chocolate filling, or maybe a seasonal restaurant menu? Today, there are endless opportunities for mouth-watering photo shoots, and interesting content is the best investment in your brand. All this can be realized by renting a professional photo studio. What do you need to know when booking such a space?
In large cities, there is not the slightest problem with renting a professional photo studio. However, there are certain periods in the year when the interest in renting increases significantly. One of them is the pre-holiday season, which is currently underway, as manufacturers prepare holiday products, special promotions, themed catalogs, offers and expect new creations for this purpose. In addition to the rental period of the photo studio, what should you consider when preparing for shooting?
Studio Specifics
With a photo studio, it's a bit like an apartment for rent-we have to pay attention to a number of factors that will ultimately allow us to decide whether a given location meets our expectations. Of course, you should pay attention to location of the studio, its size, placement, and availability of parking space. Landlords also often ask about access to daylight. Depending on the session type, this may be a necessary condition. However, we often work with food photos only with lamps that provide adequate light, regardless of the conditions outside the window.
What is easy to forget when preparing for a session? About a small thing that we can't implement any photos without, i.e. about charged batteries! It's always a good idea to have a spare battery in your backup. Moodboard is also important for shooting, so all photos correspond to the intended concept. It's also worth checking if you can use it freely. wifi, which is often useful for maintaining current contact with the session requester. In many studios, you can also find additional amenities, such as unlimited access to hot drinks or small snacks.
Equipment and add-ons
However, space alone is not enough for photographic success. High-quality equipment and accessories can work wonders on set! The basis, of course, is the camera, tripod and lenses. Then it is worth checking whether and what lamps we have. In product photos, you will often find the following useful information: flashes, as well as a shadowless table.
Moving on, it is necessary to analyze whether we will find a sufficient number of necessary accessories in this studio, among them:
- photo backgrounds – paper, fabric, or other materials,
- additives such as vials, napkins, newspapers, utilities, etc.,
- tables and countertops needed for product photography.
However, it is worth remembering that the equipment and add-ons themselves are not everything. Working on a film set is always more or less challenging. A burnt-out lamp, a broken tripod, or a lack of proper props are situations that landlords often encounter. What then?
There is no implementation during which the team responsible for the session does not ask or borrow something from us-both in relation to kitchen equipment, and various types of utilities or decorations. This is completely normal-it is difficult to anticipate everything and protect yourself in case of any possible situation. That's why our hardware store is filled to the brim with all sorts of items that are regularly put to use – comments Pamela Gudzińska from Studio Od kuchni.
The support of a competent photo studio team, a flexible approach, and a collaborative problem-solving attitude can be the key to success.
How long to book a studio?
Estimating the duration of a session is very important, because often photo studios issue a bill for each rented hour. The duration of a session depends on several aspects. First of all, it depends on how many products we photograph and how difficult it will be to prepare them. Sometimes we hold a session of ready-made products, such as bottles of wine or chocolate. However, there are orders when we need to prepare a dish in several versions from scratch. Such implementations additionally require hiring multiple subcontractors, such as, for example, a chef or food Stylist.
When evaluating the duration of a photo session, you should also take into account the experience and skill of the photographer and his preparation for shooting. Relevant summary, prepared mudboards, detailed scenario and current adoption photos can significantly improve your experience on the set. The more prepared we are when we arrive at the studio, the faster we will be able to take photos. However, the order does not end at the time of the last flash event. Once you've taken all the photos, you must move on to their painstaking processing, which wastes the sleep of many photography experts ' eyelids. Depending on the number of photos, cropping, cleaning, or grouting can take anywhere from a few hours to several business days.
